To disappear into the light
Remember back in the day when people would blog and create a sort of persona for themselves and their blog? I suppose people still do on platforms like Tumblr.
One of my go to names was Vanish. Vanish was also my stripper name, but that's another story.
My other old nom de plume is Ecfluo, a latin word that if I recall correctly means, “to disappear into the light.”
I better Google it now to find out. Oh right, it means, “to Vanish.” That’s actually how I came up with Vanish.
Looks like a young Czech street artist is using it too now.
It’s interesting, these obscure labels I come up with for myself or my work end up attracting the most interesting people. It must be a strange attractor type phenomenon.
I found a really interesting songwriter that way too, he titled his blog the same as mine. He ended up becoming a famous country musician. The blog is about gay love, and he isn’t out yet, so I’ll keep the title to myself.
I hadn’t signed into the Vanish account for awhile, yet I felt such a resonance when I looked over the past writings.
Sometimes I make myself roll my eyes, sometimes I feel dumb at things I said, but for the most part I feel kind of impressed, like, wow…
I really had something to say.
Is it the anonymity?
There is freedom in lack of identity.
Perhaps that's why I don't really consider myself A Poet. I simply write poetry. Writing poetry helps me. It's a release. It helps me work through thoughts and feelings. It can be validating, simply in the writing, and also when it resonates with others.
Nothing pretentious. Simply poetry.
We hall have poetry.
We're all poets.
That's my goal with the Words That Heal POETRY RX premium newsletter as well. Prompt people to write their poetry.
I hope you'll join us, and share some of your words in the private Marco Polo group. It's a neat little app that allows you to leave video messages to the group, so you can do a reading and people can check in and listen when they want. I love it.
