About My Poetry
I’ve been writing poetry for as long as I’ve been writing.
Even before I had much to say, I was fascinated by words
how they looked, how they felt in the mouth, how they carried meaning
that was always more than just what they said.
To me, that’s what poetry is.
Something beyond the literal.
A way of feeling what can’t always be explained.
Many of my poems come from the pressure of feeling too much.
They are love songs and grief songs,
poems of longing, of boredom, of madness and return.
They are how I digest life.
How I let it move through me,
how I make it into something I can hold.
Writing them is catharsis.
Reading them is remembrance.
Sharing them is my way of saying
if you’ve felt it too, you’re not alone.

A Moment Before Waking
a book of poems
A collection of reflections on the brutal and the beautiful, the strange and the sacred, the raw and the radiant.
These poems live in the space between dream and memory where love becomes language, and perception bends.
They are lyrics for the untamed heart,
glimpses into other dimensions of seeing, and quiet songs from the edge of waking.

effegies: lyrics by leonard september
leonard september is the name of an imaginary band that never existed.
These are the lyrics I imagined we might sing. Songs from a band that lives only in my mind and now, on the page.
Ghost songs for the dreamers who never played the show.
